Don’t Stop Socializing Your Puppy!

Great Dog Training Books..

So I love to read-I was one of those geeky kids who read on the school bus, stayed up late reading, and well just love to read! I have transitioned to a kindle, kind of. I still have a tendency to want a physical book for things I want to reference later.

Here are some of my favorite dog training books-the ones I find myself reading again and again…

Introducing The Newest Southern Animal Hospital Team Member-Tilly!

We are excited to announce Tilly, our newest four legged friend member. Tilly aka MillaBella Covered in Gold at Rokishoals is a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy owned by myself, Adam, and her breeders. We can’t wait to see how she grows up and all of the fun in watching her grow up. We are thankful for MillaBella for letting us bring this beautiful, fun girl into our house.   Tilly will be starting her puppy classes with Southern Animal Hospital’s puppy classes and at Durham Kennel Club. As she gets older she gets to try all new things including conformation, obedience, rally, agility, lure coursing, barn hunt, nose work, and whatever sports she shows us she wants to do. But of course she has a lot of growing to do first! Luckily she has the grown dogs  and Trouble the Cat to show her the way!   I am sure everyone will get tired of seeing Tilly-but not much cuter then a puppy! Clicker Training a Cat!

So I have recently started clicker training Trouble, our resident hospital cat, and it is a new world! I have used clicker training as a tool when working with my dogs for many years. I love how much clearer it makes my signals to my dogs. And when we decided to start teaching Trouble some tricks I pulled the clicker out. It works great with cats too! But here are some of the little differences I have noticed with the clicker training and training cats in general.
