So you want to go camping and bring your pets along? While bringing a cat camping is possible (especially for those that have RV campers!), most of us are going to be bringing our dogs along. What are some things to think about before you head off with your pet’s in tow?
** Be certain your pet has clear identification! We recommend a secure collar with a legible tag that also has your current information. But tags and collars can go missing, so make certain your pet has a microchip and the information is current!
**Bring enough food and water for your pets. Bringing their own food and water can decrease upset stomachs.
** Talk to your vet about an emergency kit to carry for your dog. Simple things like bandage material, benadryl, and eye flush can be really important to have on the trails.
**Know where the closest vet hospitals and veterinary emergency hospitals are; hopefully all will go well but if somethings doesn’t you need to know who can help you out!
**Bring things to keep your pet occupied. If the weather is unfavorable you may be stuck in a small space with your pet (tent or RV) for hours. Having a good chew toy/food puzzle to keep them busy will be helpful.
**If you are hiking, please follow the rules of the area, including keeping your dog on leash and cleaning up after your dog.
My dogs love to go camping with us!
And of course enjoy yourself!
